Stuart Benington
Director of Portfolio Strategy

Stuart Benington is director of global portfolio planning at Tellabs. In this role, he is responsible for identifying and targeting strategic application opportunities and for optimizing the Tellabs portfolio through product evolution and business development activity.

Prior to this role, Benington held a variety of marketing, engineering and product planning positions across several Tellabs product groups, including Tellabs Broadband Media Group and Tellabs Network Solutions Group.

Benington has more than 15 years of experience in the telecommunications industry. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in economics and computer science from Purdue University and a Master of Business Administration degree from Northwestern University.

The rise of tablets drives more traffic to the Internet

How we access the Internet is changing rapidly. The most recent Digital Index from Adobe finds that for the first time, tablet web traffic (8%) has topped that of smartphones (7%). More significant for web retailers, the study reveals tablet users spend 54% more per order than if they were using a smartphone, and 19% more than if they placed the order on a desktop/laptop.

Enable a smooth fiber-based Ethernet backhaul migration

Most operators' ultimate goal is a fiber-based Ethernet backhaul network.  Fiber has virtually unlimited capacity. Plus, compared with TDM or SDH/SONET, Ethernet offers lower costs, greater scalability and flexibility and better support for IP-based applications.

With these benefits, you'd expect operators to rush to implement fiber-based Ethernet backhaul. However, that's not the case.
