At Tellabs, we publish a customer magazine, formerly known as Inspire. It's a big project every quarter, as we work closely with customers to convey how Tellabs mobile, optical, business and services solutions helped them succeed. It's always a bit nerve-wracking when we go to press, but this quarter almost knocked us off our feet.
Every year Tellabs employees rally to give back to the community through an annual campaign. This year, employees around the world are giving money and volunteering to help relieve hunger. Tellabs offers to match each employee gift — a great opportunity to double our efforts.
The U.S. Federal Broadband Stimulus package provides an incredible opportunity for American communities and telecom equipment vendors alike. We are about to embark on the most beneficial infrastructure upgrade since FDR's New Deal which could greatly enhance the lives of those on the wrong side of the Digital Divide. And those of us in the Telecom industry are chomping at the bit to get to work and make it happen. However, most of the latest Stimulus news has focused on the definitions of broadband and what "unserved" and "underserved" really means. So while we wait for the Federal Government to figure out the details, it's a great time to start looking at broadband solutions.
The first major survey of European and U.S. mobile users conducted during the economic slump gives the telecom industry reason to be optimistic. Consumers intend to dramatically increase use of mobile data services over the next two years, with a significant ramp-up in the next 12 months.
